Jody Williams

Jody Williams is an activist who in 1992 helped found the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), for which she served as coordinator until February 1998. Her efforts resulted in the signing of the Mine Ban Treaty by more than 100 countries in 1997. That same year, she and the ICBL received the Nobel Peace Prize, making her the 10th woman to receive that distinction. In January of 2006, she along with other female laureates established the Nobel Women’s Initiative, with the mission of leveraging the prestige and access afforded by the Nobel to spotlight and promote efforts by rights activists, researchers, and organisations working to advance peace, justice, and equality for women. By pursuing the cause of women’s equality, the Nobel Women’s Initiative advances all of humanity; Ms. Williams serves as its Chair.
