The Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) and Facebook organised  the launch of the WIP-Harvard-Facebook study “Social Media: Advancing Women in Politics?”at the European Parliament, an event hosted by MEP Marietje Schaake.

Social media isn’t just revolutionizing how people connect with their friends and families. It’s also transforming how politicians – male and female – work, campaign and interact with their constituents.

The study conducted by the Harvard Kennedy School’s Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy, analyses how women in politics use social media for launching and sustaining successful political careers. It includes survey answers from female politicians from 107 countries. This event discusses the findings of the study and how social media can be used more effectively by all legislators.

Program:

  • Presentation of the report by Thomas Patterson, author of the study and Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press at Harvard Kennedy School’s Shorenstein Center
  • Discussion with female MEPs
  • Networking lunch
