One of the Millennium Development Goals is to achieve universal primary education by 2015. Sadly, millions of children are forced out of school every day because of child labour, child marriage and discrimination, circumstances which especially affects the girl child.
The Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) supports the campaign #UpForSchool, which aims to be the biggest petition in the history to give every child the right to attend school. As the countdown to the 2015 deadline continues, we have a window of opportunity to raise our voices on education and make sure 58 million marginalised children gain their right to an education.
Female Parliamentarians can help secure thousands of signatures and make sure that the voices of the world’s youth, teachers, parents and global citizens are heard and that this campaign gets the attention it deserves. All the signatures will be delivered at the United Nations General Assembly next September 2015, with a call to action to improve access to education and to end discrimination against children.
