There is a clear masculine culture within economics and finance. The largest economic focused fora around the world such as G20, G7, and APEC are largely male dominated.

Women are underrepresented at all levels of the global financial system, and even in fields where female contributions is remarkable, their representation at leadership level is well beyond that of men. Narrowing this gap will foster greater stability in the banking system, enhance economic growth and contribute to more effective monetary and fiscal policy, as well as increasing bank stability.

The role of WPL is to elevate the voices of the female financial and economic leaders also on the occasion of large gatherings around the world to promote equal representation in the economic policy between women and men. Through meetings and conferences, WPL explores global challenges of economics and finance as they relate to women, including the nature of parity in pay and representation.
