The Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) announces today the hiring of Ahinara Bascuñana as Communications Director.
Bascuñana is a Brussels-based Spanish journalist and communication specialist. Her multimedia journalism experience includes work as a reporter, producer, TV anchor, and moderator of conferences and political debates. She has also worked at the European Parliament’s Audiovisual Service and as a communication consultant for non-governmental organsations.
In making the announcement, Rick Zedník, WIP’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “WIP Founder Silvana Koch-Mehrin and I are excited to have a professional communicator with Ahinara’s breadth of skills in international media join our growing team. In particular, we intend to share our messages via video and multimedia more than ever before. Ahinara’s experience makes her well-suited to seize this challenge.”
Bascuñana will formally take the position on March 1st. She said, “I am thrilled with the opportunity to apply my professional experience and devote all my energy towards the cause I believe in most firmly: gender equality. I believe women’s leadership and political participation are essential to achieve this objective. As an activist and a journalist, I have taken every opportunity to work on women’s rights, but the time has come to take a step forward.”
After working intensively in recent years both for an EU institution and as a journalist and communication specialist, Bascuñana offers a rich profile, skilled at content creation and promotion, as well as at strategic communications planning.
She has also hosted debates with Members of the European Parliament and the live European Commission Presidential Debate in 2014 for Euranet Plus. A graduate in Journalism with honours, Ahinara Bascuñana is professionally proficient in English, French, Catalan, and her native Spanish. She has worked for a range of national and local media and news agencies as a video journalist, reporter and producer. She has also collaborated with a number of NGOs and civil society organisations.
