Empowering Refugee and Migrant Women in the Integration Process
The Women Political Leaders Global Forum (WPL) and the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations have co-hosted a seminar entitled Empowering Refugee and Migrant Women in the Integration Process as a side event to the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72), on 21 September 2017 from 13:15 to 14:30pm.
The objective of the seminar was to explore ways to empower women, and to develop the untapped potential of migrant and refugee women in integration dynamics. A special focus on women is relevant, as women suffer the consequences of conflict and displacement differently. They are exposed to greater risks when displaced, or migrating in the search for safety or a better future.
There is an increasing need for stronger gender mainstreaming in migration policies. The debate drew from best practices in Malta, Jordan and Italy.
