Maris Lauri

Maris Lauri, Member of the Parliament of Estonia: “My aim as WPL ambassador in Estonia is to encourage women to take a more active role in public life as decision-makers and leading experts. I would like to change the biased view that there are areas “for women”, and would like to increase women’s involvement in shaping the policies in business, economy, security, science, local governance, etc. The burden of the fight against Covid-19 has been especially heavy for the working women, and the economic consequences of the pandemic have affected them harshly, hence I see the need to pay special attention to the post-COVID policies and their impact on the women’s life.”

Maris Lauri is the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Estonia since 26 January 2021 and is a Member of the Estonian Reform Party. Minister Lauri previously served as a Member of the 13th and 14th Riigikogu for five years. In 2016, she served as Minister of Education and Research, and from 2014-2015, she was the Minister of Finance. In 2014, she was the economic adviser to the Prime Minister. Maris Lauri graduated from the University of Tartu in 1989 with a degree in economic cybernetics and received a master’s degree in economics from the same university in 1994.
