Springannual Meetings

“Female Parliamentarians are in the right place to influence the sustainable development goals and to monitor their implementation”, stated the Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg, at the Summer Summit 2014 of the Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP). The cooperation between WIP and the World Bank Group confirms the crucial role that female MPs play in their respective countries.

WIP Delegates from all continents, from Costa Rica to Afghanistan, will participate in the Parliamentary Network Meeting during the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund’s Annual Meeting (8-9 October) in Washington D.C. This platform seeks to engage national legislators in the mission of addressing good governance and poverty challenges in both their home countries and abroad. The Parliamentarians will address issues ranging from global economy outlook to international finance and international aid. Senior experts of the World Bank and the IMF will join the discussion.

On Friday 10 October, in the framework of the World Bank/IMF Civil Society Forum, WIP will take part in the Special Session “How does economic empowerment of women enhance stability in fragile and transition contexts?.” Represented on the panel, WIP will contribute to the session with a special focus on how women influence governance and decision making and how more women in political leadership enhance the stability of a country.
