Women politicians from 87 countries convened for the annual WPL Summit, co-hosted by the Japanese House of Representatives in Tokyo on 25-27 June in Tokyo.  The focus of the discussions was on how to advance society by taking action through the Sustainable Development Goals. It was consensus, that the SDGs can only be achieved in 2030, if equality between women and men is achieved.

The conclusions of the first-ever WPL Summit held in the Asia-Pacific region were summed up in the Outcome declaration.

WPL and the House of Representatives of Japan had the honoured to hand over the WPL Summit 2019 Declaration to Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe and G20 Leaders during the Leaders’ Special Event on Women Empowerment at the G20 Summit in Osaka on 29 June 2019.

This invitation is an acknowledgment of the determination of women political leaders gathering for the first worldwide Summit of female politicians on the Sustainable Development Goals. It is also a responsibility for all of us to continue to put pressure to ensure the voices of female politicians are heard in politics.
