The Women Political Leaders Global Forum (WPL) will hold a WPL council on economic empowerment meeting during the UNISDR Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2017 focusing on economic empowerment of women as a driver for reducing disaster risk. WPL will also participate in several panels of the program.
The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2017 will take place in Cancun (Mexico) on May 22-26. It seeks to discuss how the work of Parliamentarians can contribute to the implementation of the Sendai Framework for the Reduction of Disaster Risk Reduction.
The encounter is organised by the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico with the support of UNISDR parliamentarian initiative.
The event will provide a space for legislators to share their best practices, country experiences and commitments for disaster risk reduction. Participants will also receive information on practical tools to facilitate the inclusion of this topic in the legislative agenda.
