As Parliamentarians we share the conviction that the people should be represented at all levels of politics. This approach is also at the heart of the campaign for a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly (UNAP), which was initiated by a global network of Parliamentarians, advocating citizen’s representation at the United Nations.
Parliamentarians as the representatives of the people should be more effectively and directly included into the activities of the United Nations. The UNAP campaign therefore recommends a gradual implementation of democratic participation and representation on the global level, through a Parliamentary Assembly at the UN.
WIP works with the organisers of the UNAP initiative to ensure gender balance in the establishment of such a Parliamentary Assembly. If you want to support this cause, you can sign the petition until Wednesday, 18 December 18:00 CET. The initiators of the appeal will be handing over all signatures to the UN on Thursday, 19 December 2013, and invited WIP to join.
